Riding Motorcycle With Leaking Fork Seal
Loosen top triple clamp and carefully remove top cap on fork.
Riding motorcycle with leaking fork seal. Shove it up between the leg and the seal and run it round. It is because the fork will collect the dust and debris and will result in the sealing of the fork. If its leaking you will see fork oil on the outside of the tube.
Another reason for leaks. If your fork is leaking do not ride your motorcycle. If you can clean out the oil seals lip though under the dust seal then you can ride until it is fixed.
A trick I learnt from my dirt biking days was to use a feeler gauge or a piece of 35mm film out of a camera. Be careful they tear really easily. If there is any dirt between the dust seal and the fork seal you need to clean this next grab your seal mate.
If it is leaking you will notice fork oil on the exterior of the tube. Factory seals are triple-lip designed to seal air-assisted forks. Match leaking side to good side by adding fork oil 5W to leaking side.
It would be best to not ride until the leak is fixed. In a few minutes of riding and braking youll see if seal is still leaking or not. If you have upside-down forks this is a lot more important cause well gravity liquid etc.
For cleaning the fork first of all you should wear gloves. This problem should not be ignored because the oil will continue to drain out of the fork. Content titles and body.
