In this particular frame the engine is supported by or mounted on to steel tubes of varying diameters above and below. Clearly this frame was used on motorcycles of the bygone era.
Tube pressed steel and monocoque. But plastic or nylon sliders are most preferred. Read more about Trellis Frame here.
Motorcycle frames have everything to do with performance and feel of the motorcycle. Modern day motorcycles are built on a variety of frames taking into consideration things such as weight distribution frame strength and geometry. A variation of the single cradle known as the split single has two small tubes at the bottom to support the engine and exhaust pipes.
A single cradle frame has one down tube from the steering head while a double cradle has two supporting the engine on either side. It is made from steel tubes that surround the engine with a main tube above and other smaller diameter tubes beneath. A double-cradle frame uses two tubes running beneath the engine in order to support it instead of one steel tube on a single cradle frame.
Motorcycle frames generally fall into one of several categories. Most frames are made of steel or aluminum but there are also other choices such as carbon-fibre. KTM 390 Duke 690 Endure and most modern Ducati motorcycles use this type of frame.
