Starter Keeps Cranking With Key Off Motorcycle
If it does then its the relay.
Starter keeps cranking with key off motorcycle. Youll have to start tracing back from the solenoid and see where the harness is pinched or has a bare wire in it. I assume the starter continues to turn when you turn the key onor after you release the starter buttonthis is usualy a quick fixthe starter solenoid is stuck closedyoull need a new onedo you know where it is on your bike. If it activates the relay then its pretty much the switch or in the switch circuit.
Probably damaged the starter relay. Even though you have turned your key off if the switch inside the solenoid is stuck on and is allowing power to flow from the big lead coming directly from the battery to the big lead going to the starter motor it will keep spinning as long as the switch allows power to flow. I have a 2004 660 when i shut the key off the motor shuts off and the dash shuts down but the starter keeps turning over.
When I push the start button the starter keeps cranking and the starter relay makes noisethis is my third relay. You can either buy a new standard one or get high amp relay to replace the solenoid these are far cheaper but youll need to do some wiring mods. The contacts are probably getting fried and sticking together.
Starter keeps turning even when key is in off position. A real PITA if it sticks cause the starter motor wont stop until you disconnect the battery. You have a short in the harness somewhere if this is happening with the key off.
Possibly the internal return spring has broken inside the starter solenoidvibration bad initial assembly can cause it making the engine crank without the key being turned on same as if you bridged the two large terminals on the solenoid with a wrench or screwdriver. You may want to run a whole new wire from solenoid to handlebars to make sure your problem doesnt come back. If the engine isnt firing either then you probably damaged the CDI unit.
Sounds like your fuel filter might be plugged causing the engine shutdown. If your solenoid is good and the starter wiring is good then next place Id look is the ignition switch. Sounds like the solenoid on the starter is sticking causing your starter to stay engaged and powered up.
