My Motorcycle Has Been Sitting For 2 Years
Fork seals and other rubber seals will often leak after sitting and may need to be changed.
My motorcycle has been sitting for 2 years. Youll be needing a new battery so you might as well get one right away. Before I left it I changed the oil disconnected the battery and put gas stabilizer in it. Drain and refill the oil.
Gear is good gear is good gear is very very good. Lift the rear end of the bike put in 5th gear and turn the motor over by hand 1st Roll the back tire. Again as mentioned above remove plugs put a little Marvel mystery oil in each cylinder put in 5th gear and turn the engine over to circulate the stuff.
Replace the oil filter. A little over 5 years ago I bought a Magna bicycle. Bikes been sitting for 1 12 years.
Drain and replace the fuel - modern unleaded goes off after a couple of months so wont be any good if it has been standing for longer than that. If it has been standing for a long time it would be worth doing this again after a few miles. Before i started it I took the gas tank off and dumped out every last drop of old gas drained the fuel line.
Surface rust on engine chrome parts. Put the bike in gear and see if you can turn the motor by turning the rear wheel grunt. Check the brakes for proper operation.
I left my fuel injected bike in a storage unit in Las Vegas for a year and a half and it started right up. If it does not go out after aprox 10 seconds. Within the first summer of riding it the rear brake fell apart.
