Islo Motorcycle

Islo motorcycle. In 1975 Gary injured his leg and Can Am bought out his contract for 7000000. In the beginning these motorcycles were built to be the main work vehicles developed to be durable and economical. Trials motorcycle in the 250cc class which you would think would offer a slight weight reduction.
Typically Islo produced motorcycles referred to as Tortilla bikes which were small reliable commuter motorcycles often used by delivery services. The Only 250cc class trials bike that uses a frame made of aircraft quality 4130 steel tubing imported into Mexico from the USA. Bike was designed by bill grapevine of grapevine racing motors.
Isidro Lopez died on. Moto Islo vanished from the Mexican motorcycle market and after a brief stint as a Honda subsidiary went on to produce washing machines. GRM stands for Grapevine Racing Motors.
Very rare islo trialsmaster up for auction. Did get it to fire but just for a short time. Moto Islo was founded in 1955 by Isidro Lopez in Saltillo Coahuila.
He had it built in Mexico through the Moto Islo factory in the hopes that he could make it cheap to boot. Has great compression and spark. In those years they were known as motorcycles for tortilleros mailmen or milkmen.

Without a ride and spurred on by the un-sinkable Don Jones the Jones family purchased the entire on-the-ropes Moto-Islo motorcycle factory in Mexico from Frank Cooper. Though the press enjoyed his bike reliability was initially a problem and Cooper last just between 73 and 75.
