Having A Motorcycle In College
Being a college student the insurance on my motorcycle for the whole year is 150 for minimal coverage.
Having a motorcycle in college. Insuring a motorcycle is much cheaper than insuring a car. And they have 365 motorcycle spaces across campus and there arent usually more than one or two motorcycles parked in any single area Ive seen. In fact an estimated 90 of motorcycle riders involved in a crash had no formal training according to the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education ABATE.
Looks as if the motorcycle spots are alot more convenientspread out on campus. A lot of people are realizing motorcycles make incredibly practical transportation especially in crowded cities. Unlike cars that are designed with safety in mind motorcycles leave students exposed to open roads and any oncoming collisions.
I would recommend keeping your cash outflow at a minimum in college. As opposed to the scooter mob mentality of a bazillion scooters parked on sidewalks and lawns near full scooter areas. Not sure if this lot it still there but the one underneath Sproul had lots of motorcycle spots that had locking points embedded in the concrete for you to lock your bike.
While learning to ride a motorcycle is a fun skill to acquire theres actually a lot more to it than just using it for a hobby. Even after the full price of rent the motorcycle insurance and maintenance its still cheaper than living in on-campus housing. Students must provide their own motorcycle.
While you may become the recipient of a one-fingered salute from some people this perfectly legal maneuver will have you back on campus in no time. Consult with your local department of motor vehicles to learn more about the testing requirements of your area. At the time I was riding a bicycle which was awesome in a lot of ways but it was also pretty terrible.
If you want to ride a motorcycle you need a motorcycle permit endorsement or license. There are motorcycle specific parking spaces where you can park. It depends on your circumstances.
